The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy

This book is about a man who is the supposed precursor to Batman, Superman, Spiderman, and all the other modern superheroes. This story, however, takes place in the late 1700s during the French Revolution. He, like countless other superheroes, is just a plain man by day and a superhero at night. This man’s superhero name is the Scarlet Pimpernel. He saves French aristos by night, while playing his role as a dumb idiot, “the most British Britisher who ever lived.” Once his wife, the queen of England’s social life, Marguerite, receives a verbal ‘either you give me the Scarlet Pimpernel or your brother dies’ from an “emissary” from France, her life is thrown into a turmoil with her brother on one side and the Pimpernel on the other. I really liked this book.

Precious Corny

Precious, little precious be,
A corny in a corncob tree.

Nowhere to go, Nowhere to hide,
None to run to, None to confide.

Here you shall stay, here with me,
Homeless forever, homeless with thee.

A Curious Tale of the In-Between by Lauren DeStefano

This book is about a girl, her friend, and her friend form the spirit world. The girl, Pram, was orphaned during childbirth and she also died, but the doctors brought her to life again. Her mother did not die in childbirth, she strangled herself. Pram is unusual. She can see ghosts. Her spirit friend, Felix, is known only to her to be a real person. At school one day she meets a boy named Clarence. When she meets him, it changes her entire life. When they go to a show put on by a supposed ghost-seer, the seer starts to steal Pram’s memories. Pram eventually begins to slip away into the spirit world. Will she be lost forever, or will she save herself in time? I really like this book.

This is a story about Halloween’s origins. There is a boy named Joe Pipkin who is traveling through time accidentally. His friends follow him through time by means of a magical man named Mr. Moundshroud. At the end of the night, Joe gets in serious trouble and in real life is sent to the hospital. Meanwhile, back in time, he is killed by a lightning bolt. His friends find out that to stop him from dying in the real world they must pay a price. But will they give it? I really like this book.♣
